When that happens, rigging a natural baitfish on a squid spike is one of the most reliable ways to get them interested again. The Swimerz Double Crown Squid Spike is built exactly for this situation.
The metal shaft is pointed at the tip to make threading a whole pilchard or yellowtail quick and clean. Push it through the body so the double crown of sharp prongs exits the baitfish's mouth, pointing forward to intercept the squid as it grabs. The prongs are designed to hook and hold securely on the strike, so you're not losing fish before they make it to the bucket.
At 15cm long with a 27mm crown, these spikes are well-sized for standard baitfish presentations. Drift them under a float or cast and retrieve slowly — both methods work well depending on conditions and where the squid are sitting in the water column.
