Start with Your Boat Layout and Mounting Point

Before comparing colours or upholstery, work out where the seat will sit and how it will be mounted. Measure the available width, depth and height, check the existing pedestal or mounting surface, and allow room for the seat to swivel or fold without contacting consoles, rails, storage lids or other equipment.

Folding Boat Seats for Compact Decks

Folding seats can be useful on fishing boats, tinnies and smaller recreational boats because the backrest folds down when the seat is not needed. Compare both the unfolded dimensions for comfort and the folded dimensions for deck clearance and storage. Selected models also use straps or press studs to help keep the seat folded.

Swivel Seats for Fishing and General Boating

A swivel base lets the seat rotate so you can change direction without lifting the seat from its mount. This can be useful for fishing, working around a cockpit or changing your facing position. Rotation and locking details vary by model, so check the individual specifications and make sure there is enough clearance around the seat.

Boat Seat Pedestals and Height Adjustment

A pedestal changes the seating height and can affect legroom, visibility and comfort. The current range includes adjustable gas-lift boat seat pedestals as well as seats supplied with swivel bases. Measure the height you need from the deck to the seat mounting point and compare the pedestal's adjustment range, top plate and base dimensions before ordering.

Check Bolt Patterns and Mount Compatibility

Do not assume every seat, swivel base and pedestal will bolt together simply because a product is described as standard or universal. Compare the mounting-hole pattern, hole spacing, top-plate dimensions and any compatibility notes on both components. Existing holes in the boat should also be checked against the new mounting hardware before installation.

Compare Seat Dimensions and Folded Size

Seat width, depth, backrest height and padding thickness all affect how a seat feels and how much room it uses. A larger backrest or thicker cushion can add support but may also need more clearance. Measure the intended seating position and consider how the seat fits beside controls, storage compartments and other seats.

Padding and Backrest Support

Current models include different seat and backrest thicknesses, high-compression foam and selected XL backrests. More padding is not automatically the best choice for every boat: consider how long you typically sit, the available space, your preferred seating position and whether the seat needs to fold compactly between uses.

Marine Materials, UV Exposure and Hardware

Models in the range use materials such as UV-resistant PVC or vinyl, moulded plastic, stainless steel hardware and rust-resistant alloy hinges. Material combinations and weather-resistance features vary. Check the individual specifications and care instructions, particularly if the seat will be regularly exposed to sun, spray or saltwater conditions.

Most folding seats in the current range are sold as matched pairs, while selected fishing seats and pedestals are sold individually. Check the pack quantity and the What's Included section carefully so you know whether swivel bases, screws or other mounting components are supplied with the product.

Positioning Seats Around Fishing and Deck Space

Plan the seat position around how you move through the boat. Allow space for casting, rod holders, storage access, steering controls and other passengers, and make sure a swivel seat can rotate without creating an obstruction. A folding design can help reclaim deck space, but only when its folded footprint suits the layout.

Installation and Ongoing Checks

Install the seat, swivel base or pedestal in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The mounting surface, fasteners and hardware need to suit the boat and the loads involved. Follow any product-specific load rating, inspect mounting screws, hinges and swivel mechanisms periodically, and address looseness, corrosion or damage before further use.
